Months are sorted alphabetically in a Stacked Bar Chart. What can you do to sort it by month number?

Click on the ellipsis on Right Top Corner of Visual --> Sort by - MonthNumber

Right click on field in report view and select sort by, then select MonthNumber.

Modeling --> Select Month Column --> Sort By - MonthNumber

To sort the months in a Stacked Bar Chart by their numerical order rather than alphabetically, the appropriate action involves adjusting how the Month column is sorted in the data model. By navigating to the Modeling tab, selecting the Month column, and using the "Sort By" feature to designate MonthNumber as the sorting criterion, Power BI understands that the months should be organized according to their chronological sequence based on the numerical value of the MonthNumber instead of their alphabetical order. This process ensures that any visual representation tied to the Month field reflects the desired chronological order, improving clarity in the analysis of trends over time.

In contrast, although options that suggest using visual-level sorting or right-click methods might seem viable, they are more applicable to cases where the data has already been appropriately indexed. Just dragging the MonthNumber into the Values area doesn’t inherently change how the months are sorted in the visual; it simply adds a new value to the chart that does not affect the existing categorical sorting of months. Therefore, adjusting the sort order through the Modeling tab provides a more effective and intended solution.

Drag and drop MonthNumber into the Values area.
